Let's Visit Australia Class Assembly Script
Download this informative assembly about Australia. During the assembly, the children will discuss the history and geography of Australia, as well as the unique flora and fauna. They will also discuss tourist hotspots. The assembly offers children a chance to showcase their Aboriginal art. It touches on the history of the Aboriginal people and their treatment by colonisers in a sensitive and age-appropriate way. The assembly will allow the children to showcase their cross-curricular learning, with opportunities to find appropriate images to go with the different sections of the assembly and create visual images to support the assembly. The assembly can also be modified to allow children to showcase their non-fiction writing, allowing them to share facts about animals and plants or the history and geography of Australia.

Hello everyone. Welcome to our assembly.
Child 2
Today, we want to talk to you about life 'down under'.
Child 1
(confused) I thought we were talking about Australia.
Child 2
Yes. That's what I said.
Child 1
No. You said we're telling them about life down under. But we're not discussing caves or anything like that (flips through papers on the clipboard).
Child 2
Australia is sometimes called down under because it's kind of underneath Europe.
Child 1
So if I dig down far enough, I'll find Europe?
Child 2
No. That's definitely not how that works. Why don't we get some experts to help us?
Child 1
That's a great idea. I'm so confused.
Geographers 1 and 2 enter.
Geographer 1
Hi guys, I understand you're a bit confused about Australia and where it is.
Child 1
Yep. I'm really confused. Can you help us?
Geographer 2
I should hope so. We're geographers. It's our job to know where countries are.
Child 1
Brilliant. He told me that Australia is under Europe. But that's just silly. I'm sure they don't live in caves underneath us. My aunty flew there once.
Geographer 1
Well, actually, you're both correct. Australia is not a cave underneath Europe, but we do say it's down under.

Two tourists enter, looking confused. Child 7 and 8 leave.
Tourist 1
We want to go to Australia!

Can you help us?
Travel Agent 1
Sure, we can. What sort of stuff do you like?
Tourist 1
We were hoping to eat lots of strudel.
Tourist 2
And maybe climb some mountains.
Tourist 1
And visit Vienna and Salzburg.
Tourist 2
And listen to some Mozart.
Travel Agent 2
No, no. You're thinking of Austria.
Travel Agent 1
We're talking about Australia.
Tourist 1
(Embarrassed) Oh! Silly us.
