London Class Assembly Script

London

Download an assembly and take a tour of the historic city of London. Meet the pampered ravens at the Tower of London and learn of the grisly goings on with Henry VIII and his six wives. Enjoy Shakespeare’s brief appearance as he prepares for the opening night at the Globe Theatre and recoil at the rudeness of the tourist at Westminster Abbey. The assembly is rounded off nicely with a rousing rendition of ‘Maybe it’s Because I’m a Londoner’. Funny, informative and wonderfully entertaining.

London Class Assembly - Extract

Extract 1

London

Narrator

Join us as we take a step back in time and tour the great City of London, and marvel at the sights that have tourists flocking to our country's capital. First stop, the terrifying Tower of London.

Enter six children dressed as ravens, two children dressed as beefeaters, and one as King Charles II

Narrator

The Tower of London has been used as a royal palace, a prison, and a fortress, but one of the most unique features of the Tower is its resident ravens.

The ravens all flap about and leap around the stage

Narrator

Legend has it that the Tower will fall if the ravens ever leave.

The ravens are cared for by the Yeoman Warders, also known as Beefeaters, who are responsible for their well-being.

The beefeaters make a fuss of the ravens stroking them and feeding them

Narrator

They have been protected by royal decree since the reign of Charles II, who was worried that the superstition about the Tower's fate would come true.

King

(To the ravens looking worried) Come, come, my lovelies. (the ravens flock around him) Are the guards taking good care of you? .........

Extract 2

Shakespeare exits in a huff

Narrator

Shakespeare would be even more annoyed, as after his death, it wasn't only kings and queens that were buried there.

He does have a statue in the Abbey, though.

Enter tour guide with tourists to Westminster Abbey

Guide

Welcome to our wonderful abbey. As you will have noticed, the abbey is located close to Big Ben and The Palace of Westminster. (carries droning on in an almost inaudible whisper as the tourists talk over them).

Tourist 1

How long does this go on for? I'm dying for a cup of tea.

Tourist 2

Ssssshhhh! I'm trying to listen.

Tourist 1

(Looks huffy) Only asking.

Guide

(Increases volume) dates back to the 7th century, when a small monastery was founded on the site. The monastery was later rebuilt by King Edward the Confessor in the 11th century as a grand church........(quietens down again).
