Welcome to our Assembly. You are about to see a scene from the nursing house of Mary Seacole.
Narrator 2
Mary Seacole lived in 1853 and was a doctress. She was born in Jamaica and was a very clever woman. (Mary surrounded by 3 or 4 other children dressed up as nurses)
Mary SC
Now because you are all new, I shall speak very slowly. I want to show you how you can mix different plants together to make medicines! You - with the black hair. What is this ingredient?
Child 1
A fruit of some kind?
Mary SC
No no no! This is Aloe Vera. You scoop the gel out of the plant and rub it on the skin. It has great healing properties!
And you (pointing at another nurse). What is this?

(With a bag of newspapers shouting out across the front of stage) Extra Extra, read all about it! Cholera outbreak in the Crimera!
Child 2
Extra Extra. dirty conditions kill soldiers. Malaria outbreak in the hospitals. Not enough nurses! Read all about it!
Narrator 3
In 1853 the Crimean war had started and solders were dying because there was not enough medicine and the hospitals were very dirty.
