Superheroes
Narrator
Welcome to our assembly about superheroes. As well as the most popular superheroes of all time you will also learn that not all heroes wear capes!
Enter children dressed as superheroes
Child 1
I get fed up trying to save the planet sometimes.
Child 2
I know what you mean. You’d think people would be more careful.
Child 3
Superpowers come at a price.
Child 1
Sometimes I wish I didn’t have superpowers.
Child 4
(To Child 1) What’s your superpower?
Child 1
I can blow bubbles out of my ears.
Child 4
What good is that to anyone?
Child 1
It's called the power of distraction! What about the rest of you?
Child 2
I have the power to communicate with household objects.
Child 3
I can make myself invisible - but only when no one is looking at me.
Child 4
I can curl up into a ball and make myself into a fire bomb.
(Looking impressed at Child 4 and nodding their heads in approval)
Narrator
The first comic book hero was The Phantom in 1936. He dressed all in purple and wore an eye mask.
Enter two more superheroes
Child 5
Hiya. What’s going on here then?
Child 1
Do you mind? It’s a private conversation.
Child 6
No need to be like that.
Child 2
Are you superheroes?
Child 5
Nah. We always dress like this.
Extract 2
Enter Joan of Arc: Clad in armour carrying a sword. George Washington: Dressed in colonial attire with a powdered wig. Cleopatra: Wearing an extravagant Egyptian gown and headdress. Albert Einstein: Sporting disheveled hair holding a chalkboard with equations. Amelia Earhart: Wearing aviator gear complete with a leather bomber jacket. A Jogger
The heroes gathered in a circle, scratching their heads and looking around in bewilderment.
Narrator
It looks like there’s been a time-travelling blip!
Joan of Arc
(Pointing at a jogger) What sorcery is this? A maiden running without fear?
Washington
Fear not, good lady! We shall defend this land from this mysterious running menace!
Cleopatra
(Amused) Oh my! Look at these strange things people are carrying. What purpose do they serve?
Einstein
(Examining a smartphone) Ah, fascinating! These small devices seem to possess great power, yet I cannot understand their function. A mystery indeed!
Earhart
(Spotting an aeroplane in the sky) By the wings of Icarus! I see a metal bird soaring high above us. Perhaps we could hitch a ride back home.
Enter a confused passerby who stumbles upon the scene.
Passerby
(Wide-eyed) Uh, excuse me, but...who are you folks, and why are you dressed like that?
Washington
(Straightening his coat) I am General George Washington, leading the fight for independence in the American colonies!
Cleopatra
(Smiling) I am Cleopatra, the Queen of Egypt, renowned for my beauty and intellect.
Einstein
(Adjusting his glasses) I am Albert Einstein, the eminent physicist known for my theory of relativity and messy hair!
Earhart
(Saluting) Amelia Earhart, the pioneering aviator and adventurer, reporting for duty!
